Taylor Swift titled her fifth studio album after her birth year, 1989. "Clean" was one of the last tracks Swift wrote, recalling that she was inspired to write "Clean" after spending two weeks in London, the same city an ex-lover lived in, without thinking about him and realizing she was finally over him.  The lyrics use imagery of a torrential storm to describe breaking from an addictive, toxic relationship. Our inspiration of “Clean” comes from the crisp scent of green clover, aloe, and waterlilies, with Egyptian musk.
